Bekkeland, Renate. Better health together

In this picture the green flowers are supposed to represent the patients, and the lights are supposed to represent different health workers. Our goal together is to keep the patient’s needs in focus, and to focus on a common goal for a better everyday life.

When we work together the results may be better because we have different knowledge. We have to tailor made the rehabilitation or habilitation for the individual´s needs to make a better outcome. A patient’s problem may be complex, and to offer a comprehensive treatment where the patient live is important.

Norway is called a welfare state because the government, both federal and local, has primary responsibility for the welfare of its citizens. A welfare state is a social welfare system in which important aspects of the inhabitants´standard of living, education and health care are funded through general tax revenues. (Samfunnskap.no, 2018)

In a welfare state the government distributes resources to allow all inhabitants access to basic goods like housing, food, medical assistance and schooling. (Samfunnskunnskap.no, 2018)

«Samhandlingsreformen» is a law that was made in 2012 to strengthen the municipalities’ responsibility for prevention and health promotion in all sectors of the society. It is supposed not only to do rehabilitation but also to prevent disease, make different health workers cooperate, move services closer to where the person lives, involve the patients even more to maintain their values. (Helsedirektoratet, 2018)

For the citizens in Norway “Samhandlingsreformen” means:

  • It will be easier to get help were you live.
  • Patients should receive assistance in the coordination of treatment and follow-up.
  • Follow-up of people with chronic disorders will be better.
  • There will be more offers to those who want help to change their living habits that can lead to illness, such as changing their diet or quit smoking.
  • People will notice more focus on health promotion in their local community. (Helsedirektoratet, 2018)

To make a flower bloom it has it needs. Human beings have interests, values and needs we have to maintain. When we maintain these individual needs, and feel like we are a part of the society our life quality will also be better. Our role as a physiotherapist is to contribute to growth and better life quality in spite of functional disabilities or disease.

  1. Hi Renate.

I really enjoyed reading your piece, and the photo you used is beautiful and has many interesting features. I enjoyed reading your interpretation of the leaves and lights and what they represent to you. If I could ad anything I would ask that you just add another sentence or two just to make it a bit more.
The academic portion of your piece was really nice to read and the language you used made it easy to read and follow, I did find one word order or grammatical error in the first and second paragraph, it could just be the way I read it but, it would be better if you just checked that. It was great to learn something new about your country and what the law of Samhandlingsreformen means to the citizens.
Overall I really liked your piece and the use of colour throughout was really nice and you have good references.
Overall you did a great job, it was a pleasure you read your work. Well Done.
