Hiking trail for everyone

This is Haukvatnet, lying in Trondheim. I chose this picture because i worked at a rehabilitation center for people with acquired brain damage last summer just nearby this place and we used to take a trip around this water with the patients all the time. The path is almost flat all the way around and asphalt is laid on the path which is great for people with wheelchairs and people with brain damage who often needs to learn how to walk again. I think to have this opportunity as a patient, to leave the four doors at the rehabilitation center and get out in nature, is very important and does something with their motivation in the rehabilitation program. Physiotherapy and rehabilitation in this surroundings are therapy in it self, and even easier to do the job for the patients.

Equality and Anti-Discrimination Act is an act where the purpose of this act is to promote equality and prevent discrimination. “Equality” means equal status, equal opportunities and equal rights (Lovdata, 2017). The fact that the path is laid with asphalt ensures the patients opportunities to use the path, when they are in a wheelchairs or they try to learn how to walk again, because the asphalt is flat and therefore less obstacles for the patients. If they need a path with more obstacles there is an other water not far from the rehabilitation center with a path with more obstacles and a different terrain.

  1. Hi, Martin.
Your picture is beautiful with an obvious correlation to the text. I can understand how this serene trail is a means of therapy for patients. I like how you give importance to the motivation patients need to improve their condition that is not always present when they are confined in the walls of the rehabilitation center.
This year we did a subject called Disability and Rehabilitation and we interviewed a disabled person as part of an assignment. It really got me thinking to the ways in which all forms of services and entertainment are made accessible for disabled persons in South Africa. I had not even thought about outdoor activities, such as hiking as you have mentioned, being made accessible to persons with wheelchairs or other assistive devices so your text was interesting to read.
As a suggestion to broaden your assignment, have you considered how other services in Norway are made accessible to persons with wheelchairs? Even other areas of recreation that may possibly be used as part of therapy. To strengthen the point you discussing, you could perhaps include references from research or articles based in Norway that addresses the accessibility of public services for disabled persons to promote equality and anti-discrimination.
I enjoyed reading what you have written and am eager to do research about the accessibility of outdoor activities for disabled persons in South Africa.
I have to acknowledge that I realise I have given feedback extremely late but, as i mentioned in an email to you, I had trouble finding your assignment as it was not under the “All posts” tab. I sincerely apologise and hope that my feedback will still be helpful and of use to you.

All the best with your studies.

    Kind regards
