Here is a short list of some of the things that stood out for us during our first few days in Oslo.
- Public transport is safe and everyone uses it, not only poor people.
- The city seems very peaceful, maybe because it was Sunday today. I felt like everyone was calm and relaxed; no rush and no signs of stress.
- People were walking down the streets pulling their luggage. Not something you would see in Cape Town.
- The food is quite different from what I am used to.
- Norwegians seem to have a thing for statues of nude people.
- I realised that I know nothing about the history of Norway. Related to this, I didn’t know that Norway was a monarchy.
- Very few shops are open on a Sunday, which seems strange since this is when people are free to do their shopping for the next week.
- Scooters are used by so many people, and they have right of way to cars.
- There are so many diverse art installations around the city.
- There are very few homeless people in the city, and there are shelters for those who are.
