I’m really pleased to participate in this assignment. I think it is an extremely valuable experience for many reasons. Both to be challenged in a completely different way in terms of having to take a picture from a patients point of view, and also because it includes promoting awareness of the similarities and differences between our countries. I believe this will give us some of the insight we need to become well-rounded and morally just physiotherapists.
I was born in a village in the south of Germany, but moved to Norway with my mother at the age of four. I grew up with her and a Shepherd dog who basically was my second mom. I really love spending time outdoors – hiking, climbing trees, fishing and running. My interest in movement and martial arts brought me to study physiotherapy – combined with the inspiration I have taken from my mom’s work as a doctor when it comes to honestly trying to see other people and help them improve their lives. After I finish my degree I will probably move to South Africa within a few years, my fiancé is South African and we both really feel at home and alive being in South Africa. Working internationally is extremely important to me as I wanted to work for Doctors Without Borders or some other medical NGO ever since I was a child. Otherwise I just enjoy the complexity of perspectives given by people living completely different lives than me. I always feel like I grow a little because I am guaranteed to be humbled a bit and learn something new 🙂
